Peas

Peas, part of the legume family, are one of the oldest cultivated plants, which are used for animal feed, as well as for human consumption.

They thrive especially well on soils that are rich in humus. The one year old herbaceous plant develops a significantly branched root system and grows up to two meters in hight. It forms big tendril leaves and small white blossoms. In the long peapods grow up to ten seeds, which are coloured green, yellow or brownish, depending on the sort.

Peas are valued because of their high content of protein, vitamins and folic acid. People like to serve them as a side-dish and nowadays also the supplement of pea flour as a source of protein gets more and more popular.
